Text-Alert Messaging System – Privacy Policy
The City of Calumet City (City) is pleased to offer a text-alert messaging system to enhance our communications with City residents. The City utilizes Prompt.io Inc. to provide City residents with text message notifications about alerts, events, and service requests.
Purpose
The privacy policy (“Policy”) explains how the City collects, uses, and protects information shared by residents who participate in the City’s text-alert messaging system.
Information Collected
In order to register to receive alerts from the City text-alert messaging system, you must provide certain personally identifying information, including: name, e-mail address, phone number, mailing address. You must affirmatively “opt-in” to receive the alerts, which can be done on the Text-Alert Signup – Calumet City
The City will not collect, retain, share, or otherwise use your personally identifying information for any purpose except sending you text-alert messaging notifications regarding City alerts, events, and service requests.
Although the City provides its text-alert messaging system free of charge, message and data rates may apply depending on your carrier.
Information Use and Protection
Except as provided in this Policy, your personally identifying information is private and will not be sold, rented, leased, or otherwise disclosed to the general public, including third parties, for direct mail, advertising, or spam purposes. The City may release your personally identifying information to persons authorized to have access to the information under state or federal law; persons authorized by court order to have access to the information; persons to whom you have given written consent to have access to the information; and authorized individuals employed by or entities under contract with the City who have a need and a right to know the information in order to administer, manage, and improve the City text-alert notification system.
Interruptions
You accept the City is not responsible for delays, errors, failures to perform, interruptions or disruptions to the City’s text-alert messaging system caused by or resulting from any act, omission, or condition beyond our reasonable control, whether or not foreseeable or identified, including without limitation, the loss of, or improper access to data unauthorized access or interceptions of such data, transmission errors or corruption or security of information carried over telecommunication lines, failure of digital transmission links, hostile network attacks or network congestion, or acts of God, strikes, lockouts, riots, acts of war, governmental regulations, shortage of equipment, materials or supplies, fire, power failure, earthquakes, severe weather, floods or other natural disasters or the failure of your applications, hardware, software or communications equipment or facilities.
Limitation of Liability
In no event shall the City, its officers, employees or agents be liable for any direct, indirect, consequential, special, incidental, or punitive damages, or any other damages, losses, costs, or other expenses of any kind whatsoever resulting from, caused by, or arising out of or in connection with the text-alert messaging system, its content or services, or any other cause whatsoever, including, without limitation, losses related to the inability to use the service, loss of data, loss of profits or any errors.
Freedom of Information Act
Pursuant to the Freedom of Information Act (“FOIA”), 5 ILCS 140/1 et seq, the City may redact unique identifiers including a person’s home or personal telephone numbers from responsive records pursuant to FOIA exemption 7(1)(b), which expressly exempts private information from disclosure. 5 ILCS 140/2(c-5); 5 ILCS 140/7(1)(b). As such, the City is legally authorized to protect your contact information from compelled disclosure under FOIA.
Changes to Privacy Policy
The City may amend this Policy at any time. The City encourages you to periodically review this Policy to stay informed of how the City is protecting your information.
The City is committed to safeguarding your personally identifying information from unauthorized access, use or disclosure by adhering to appropriate physical, electronic, and managerial procedures.
