Calumet City Stormwater & Property Tax
Property Taxes
Fed up with all the political “lip service”about property taxes?
Mayor Thaddeus Jones and your City Council are working every day to fight property tax increases.
Here’s What They’ve Done…
When first elected four years ago,
Thaddeus Jones initiated a “no tax hike” policy for the city. Together with City Treasurer Gerald Tarka and members of the city council, that pledge has been kept. The city hasn’t raised its property tax rate for nearly 5 years.
Only 37 cents of every property tax dollar you pay goes to the city to provide police, fire, emergency medical, street repair services and more, 24/7. It’s like getting 30 lbs of service in a 3 lbs bag.
Mayor Jones and Treasurer Tarka, brought in over $66 Million new dollars in grants and low interest state loans, for city services, roads and infrastructure improvements, at no additional cost to homeowners.
Created a “Property Tax Hotline” to assist homeowners faced with outrageous county tax increases.
There’s something you need to know about your property tax bill.
Of every property tax dollar you pay, only 37 cents goes to Calumet City to cover the cost of all the services we provide every day.
Those 37 cents go a long way.
Dear Homeowner:
Of every property tax dollar you pay, only 37 cents goes to the city to provide all the services we do – 24/7. And, we haven’t raised the city’s property tax rate in nearly 5 years. That didn’t just happen.
We’ve worked hard to not raise the property tax rate, by bringing in over $31 million in grant money and $35 million in bonds and low-interest state loans to our city, to pay for road construction and maintenance, sewer and storm water
renovation and more.
That’s $66 million dollars for infrastructure projects, you won’t have to pay.
The problem with most government spending is that sooner or later you run out of other people’s money.
We’ve never lost sight of that fact. That’s why we’re committed to holding the line on property taxes by doing more with less.
Storm Water Action Plan
Thaddeus Jones went to work creating an effective Stormwater Action Plan.
Together, with Treasurer Gerald Tarka and the City Council, they’re finally
tackling the problem…
$5 million to modernize stormwater pumping systems, detention basins, overflow storage, back-up power generators
$15 million to alleviate flooding caused by the Little Calumet River in wards 6 & 7
$10 Million to finalize a Sewer Assessment and improvement plan
Rebate to homeowners up to $4,000 on installation of overhead sewer
