Put the Phone Away or Pay

Calumet City Illinois – In recognition of Distracted Driving Awareness Month, the Calumet City Police Department is partnering with the Illinois Department of Transportation, the Illinois State Police and local law enforcement agencies across Illinois to step up enforcement efforts throughout April. Motorists can expect increased patrols looking for texting, social media use, video viewing and other distracted driving violations.

“Distracted driving endangers everyone on the road—even a momentary look at your phone can lead to serious, life-changing consequences,” said Chief Kolosh. “Throughout April, officers will be actively enforcing distracted driving laws and urging drivers to stay focused and keep their phones out of reach.”
If you need to send a message, check directions, or return a call, make sure to pull over and park in a safe location first—no task is worth risking your safety or the safety of others. Whatever the situation, avoid driving while distracted.

In Illinois, manually using an electronic communication device while driving is not only dangerous, but it is also illegal.

The Illinois distracted driving campaign is funded with federal traffic safety funds administered by the Illinois Department of Transportation.
