Forest Preserves get a little help from their “Friends” to cut back invasive species
(CALUMET CITY) JANUARY 2, 2018 – The Forest Preserve of Cook County (FPCC) plans to move forward with brush and tree removal projects this winter in Calumet City, utilizing federal grant funding and partner organization “Friends of the Forest Preserves,” a spokesman said.
Last summer the Forest Preserve thinned brush and trees from Wentworth Woods at Michigan City Road, weeding out the growth of invasive species from the area. The work at two additional sites this winter, an area bounded by Pulaski Road, Torrence and Michigan City Road, will involve similar clean ups, according to the Forest Preserve.
Invasive brush was removed via brush mowers on the properties north of Michigan City Road and west of Burnham Ave in the winter of 2014-15 as well as the property south of Michigan City Road and west of State-Line Road in the winters of 2015-2017.
