Over the past year and a half, Calumet City has been working alongside the Chicago Metropolitan Agency for Planning and the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District to create the Calumet City Subarea Plan – a plan for a small geographic area on the eastern edge of the city that overlaps with the 1st and 5th wards.

Once it is complete, the subarea plan aims to:

• Make it easier and safer to get around
• Attract new businesses and keep existing ones
• Minimize flooding and improve stormwater management
