This is Chief Kolosh from the Calumet City Police Department with an important announcement.
The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Warning for the Chicago metropolitan area including the City of Calumet City. Heavy snowfall and dangerous travel conditions are expected.
In an effort to help the City keep our streets clear for travel we are implementing our emergency snow program, and vehicles must be removed from the roadway and from designated snow routes. This will allow for quicker and easier passage of our snow removal equipment. Vehicles parked on a snow route where snow is present at a depth of 2 inches or more will be towed away or relocated. Please also remember that depositing snow on the roadway is prohibited.
I ask all residents to check on your neighbors, especially our seniors. The City’s senior snow removal program will begin when snowfall has stopped and streets are clear for travel.
Be assured that the Mayor and the City Council have provided your police department and public works department with all of its resources to keep you and your family safe. We ask that you assist us by parking in your driveway if possible, and by checking on your neighbors. We will get through this together.
If you need special assistance please call the City’s non-emergency number (708) 868-2500 and we will make every effort to provide assistance
