In the Spring of 2016, the City of Calumet City will be starting the Water Meter Replacement Program which will eventually replace approximately 8,500 old meters which have been in service for more than 20 years and have reached the end of their expected life. The new meters have an expected 20 year service life, which will ensure accurate readings and billing. There is no cost to the homeowner for the meter replacement.

The existing water meters utilize moving internal parts to measure water consumption. These parts wear out over time, resulting in reduced accuracy. The new Sensus iPerl water meters have no moving parts and provide consistent accuracy over the life of the meter.
The City has contracted with Johnson Control Inc., Calumet City Plumbing and M.E. Simpson to complete the installation of the new meters and remote devices. Residents will receive a notification letter from M.E. Simpson on behalf of the City of Calumet City. It is required that an adult, 18 years or older, be present for the installation. Calumet City Plumbing will require access to each residence and business because the meters are typically located in the basement, crawl space or utility closet.
The City of Calumet City has numerous Sensus products throughout the metering system. Sensus has been the City of Calumet City’s meter supplier for many years. Should you like to learn more about the iPerl technology, experience and safeguards of its meters, please visit: www.sensus.com
